Train commuters who travel to their destinations by buses will be able to use the train ticket on CTB buses with effect from next year. The Transport Ministry has decided to implement this system for the benefit of a large number of train commuters who had to spend extra money for traveling in buses, the Ministry Spokesman said.

Transport Minister Dallas Alahaperuma told The Island that after Norchcholai and Sampur power generation plants are commissioned in the next two years, Transport Ministry had already prepared plans to operate electric trains.

The rail-bus service commenced operations in Trincomalee on December 19 and the Laylend buses donated by India had been converted into Rail-bus service by Sri Lankan engineers.
