Police questioned a school principal who functioned as Supervisor at a GCE O Level examination centre in Mattumagala over a delay in handing over answer scripts.
The Principal who should have handed them over to a collection centre in Kiribathgoda each day after the examination, handed over only a part of the answer scripts and had kept the rest in his possession. When he handed over the balance answer scripts after a delay of two days, the Kiribathgoda collection centre refused to accept it and directed him to hand it over to the main collection centre in Gampaha. The Gampaha centre after accepting the answer scripts had questioned the principal and informed the Police about the delay.
The principal has told the Police that he has forgotten to handover part of the answer scripts. Police investigations revealed that he had employed a woman invigilator, who had nothing to do with the teaching profession, but was only a friend of the principal. He has introduced the woman to other invigilators as a teacher attached to his school. The suspect is a principal attached to a school in Kandana.
The GCE O Level examination was concluded on Tuesday and the suspect Principal would be handed over to the CID, Police said.
