President urges unity to defeat foreign plots

When the Sithawaka Kingdom was under the threat of foreign domination, the people rose against the enemies and protected their kingdom. The people of Thunkorale are very patriotic and were led by great leaders such as Dr. N. M. Perera. Today history is being repeated and the foreign powers are pressing us. The people should rise to save the motherland, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

He was addressing a UPFA rally at the new playground at Ruwanwella, on Sunday evening.

President Rajapaksa said the people gave him the power to unite the country and he did it. He promised the people to end terrorism and he did. While waging a war against terrorists, a deadly outfit, his government also was engaged in developing the country. While a colossal sum was spent on security, a large amount of money was also spent on education and health.

President Rajapaksa said the people cannot be cheated by false promises. His government spent Rs. 23,000 million on the war while Rs. 19,000 million was spent on development and a firm foundation has been laid for the future economic development.

He called upon the people to elect him with an overwhelming majority at the presidential elections.
