Sangakkara: I was a touch nervous

Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara admitted he was nervous during his team’s successful run chase against India in the triangular one-day tournament in Dhaka.

"When we started, I was reminded of the series in India and I thought, ‘here we go again"’,said Sangakkara.

"But Welegedara turned in a magnificent performance and all the other bowlers chipped in.

"Again, during the chase, (Thilina) Kandamby got out just after I fell and I was a touch nervous.

"He is an experienced player but Thissara Perera was terrific in the powerplay and full credit to Samaraweera for batting right through.

"He scored 100 at almost a run a ball and he’s vital in a one-day side when he bats like this."

Sangakkara praised his young side but also warned them to stay grounded.

"I thought our fielding was a lot better than in the last game but there’s still a lot to learn, especially bowling in the powerplays and in the middle overs," he continued.

"The attitude of the team was excellent and the players are hungry to win.

"We haven’t had the best of times with injuries but what that has created is opportunities for the younger guys to come through and shine.

"They have injected new life into the team but we should not get too carried away with this.

"We need to work on our basics and keep winning."
