Obstacles to fishing trade removed – Weerawansa

The fishing community contributed greatly to the economy of the country, said Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa.

Addressing a gathering at Meda Mulana, he said there was an era when the fisherfolk in the Southern Province were not allowed to engage in fishing in the seas in the North and the East.

This obstacle had been cleared as a result of the terrorist menace being ended.

He said it was the bounden duty of the people and the politicians to protect the existing peaceful situation created after President Mahinda Rajapaksa defeated terrorism.

Some foreign countries were conspiring to topple this government which did not succumb to their demands to fulfill the aspirations of the Tigers, he said.

To achieve their goals, he said Sarath Fonseka had been selected as their candidate. Fonseka claimed the victory over the LTTE as his victory. "We all are aware that it was not a one-man show."

He said Sampanthan and Mano Ganeshan and other Tamil leaders, who followed Prabhakaran, are now with Fonseka to achieve their Eelam which they failed to win under Prabhakaran. President Rajapaksa will not allow it to happen, Weerawansa said.
