JVP trying to enter parliament by hanging on to the UNP - Nimal
Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that the JVP was trying to support its members to enter Parliament in the next parliamentary elections by staying with UNP. It was looking for a party for that purpose, but the UNP was well aware of JVP's ulterior motives, he said at a meeting held for SLFP organisers in the Badulla district recently.
Minister de Silva pointed out that the JVP was incapable of winning on its own and the party always depended on another political party. In 2005 General Elections, the JVP joined the UPFA and contested. As a result of that it was able to send 39 JVP members to Parliament. Had the party contested alone it would have not sent 39 members to Parliament.
He added that today the JVP was rubbing shoulders with the UNP and trying to get UNP votes to allow its members to enter parliament. The UNPers who knew about this had decided to support the UPFA government at the next General Election. The UNPers had realised that they made a down right mistake by casting their votes for General Sarath Fonseka, because President Mahinda Rajapaksa was a man of visionary leadership and integrity.
Minister de Silva said that most UNPers and JVPers from all districts had begun to repent for the mistakes they had made and were seeking UPFA membership. The government's motive would be to work together to develop the country irrespective of caste, creed, religion and political affiliations. President Rajapaksa was a man of compassion and he would never take revenge from anyone. He had requested all politicians to make efforts to develop the country.
