The Bingiriya Retired Govt. Teachers' Association has launched a special project to teach English Language, English Literature, Maths and Science subjects free of charge to needy students of govt. schools who are due to sit for G.C.E. (OL) Exam in December, 2010.
R. M. Piyasena, Vice President of Bingiriya School Principals' Association, told The Island that 123 school teachers have volunteered to teach these subjects and 3,200 students in the Bingiriya, Panduwasnuwara and Nikaweratiya electorates in the Kurunegala district would be benefited.
He also said that many parents don't send their children to private classes due to poverty and hence school teachers launched this worthy programme as a community service project.
