Petition against SF’s candidature to be supported on March 18

The fundamental rights violation application filed by Attorney-at-Law Sarath Koangahage, a candidate at the last Presidential Poll, against General Sarath Fonseka and the Commissioner of Elections, will be supported in the Supreme Court on March 18, 2010.

The petitioner wanted further time to support the petition. Time was granted till March 18, 2010.

The petition had alleged that Fonseka was a US Green Card holder and that being a citizen of both USA and Sri Lanka he was not entitled to contest for the Presidency, in Sri Lanka.

The petitioner had requested the Court to cancel his nomination to contest for the Presidency in Sri Lanka.

The bench comprised Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, Justice N. G. Amaratunga and Justice S. I. Imam.
