Children visit HMAS Glenelg
A group of boys from the Child Protection Society Boys Home visited the Royal Australian Navy patrol boat HMAS Glenelg.
The visiting vessel docked at Colombo Harbour from January 28 to 31 as part of a goodwill visit, which included a series of activities with the Sri Lanka Navy.
Australian Naval officers organised a fun-filled and engaging tour for the boys, which included lifeboat and safety equipment demonstrations, a tour of the Captain’s control room, and a first-hand lesson on how to navigate a warship.
The crew of HMAS Glenelg had a great time showing the vessel to the boys.
HMAS Glenelg is a versatile vessel capable of conducting a wide variety of missions and tasks.
Along with other Armitage Class Patrol Boats (ACPB’s) its principal contribution is to Australia’s fisheries protection, immigration, customs and drug enforcement operations.
The vessels work with other Australian Government agencies, and each year provide up to 3,000 patrol days as part of the national surveillance effort.
The Australian High Commission has had a long history of engagement with the Child Protection Society, which was established in 1928.
The Child Protection Society is committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children.
