

‘Life Insurance Week’ initiated by Ceylinco Life, which plays a key role in educating the general public on the importance of Life insurance in Sri Lanka, is to be replicated for the third time this year, a company news release said.
Launched as a continuation of the company’s efforts to expand the size of the market, the Life Insurance Week will be observed from February 11-17. As in previous years, it is preceded by a media campaign now underway, and will comprise of a series of interactive events in all parts of the country.
"The first step to obtaining protection through life insurance is understanding its necessity and importance. An interactive activity on a national scale like Life Insurance Week has been found to be an effective method to educate the general public and to build public confidence in life insurance," Ceylinco Life Deputy Chairman R. Renganathan said.
"As the country’s life insurance leader, we are committed to play the lead role in expanding our market and extending our protection to many more families," he added.
The build-up to the Life Insurance Week began on February 1 with a media campaign featuring the need for Life insurance.
Prior to the commencement of the Life Insurance Week, Ceylinco Life’s sales personnel will visit schools in their respective areas and brief teachers and parents at a specially set up get-together in order to educate them on the importance of life insurance. Simultaneously, all Ceylinco Life branches will conduct programmes to educate the general public on the same subject.
During the Life Insurance Week, the company will conduct public awareness programmes in 31 towns and cities, including distant locations such as – Valachchenai, Kantale and Ampara. These interactive sessions will be supported by brochures, stickers, outdoor banners, posters and pennants in these areas. Mobile teams of sales professionals from the company who will be wearing a badge with the words ‘Ask me about Life Insurance’ will also be seen in these areas. Their task will be to conduct Need Analyses for those interested in obtaining life insurance.
During this period, Ceylinco Life will also conduct free medical camps in Matara, Wariyapola and Batticaloa under the company’s ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ programme at which members of the public are offered free check-ups by a team of doctors.
Another new initiative called ‘Vyaparika Athwela,’ at which the company helps business people to grow their businesses by educating them through workshops will also be conducted in Dambulla, Mihirigama and Galgamuwa.
Every person who obtains life cover during the Life Insurance Week will receive a booklet that helps the layman understand life insurance and the need for it. A special Help Desk will also be set up at the Head office of Ceylinco Life for any queries related to life insurance, the company said.
Ceylinco Life owns the largest branch network in the country’s life insurance sector and currently employees a sales force of more than 5,000. The company has more than 750,000 lives covered by active policies and accounts for a 35 per cent share of the local life insurance market.
