

Spinner Maneesha Tantrigoda became the first Royal College bowler to take more than 70 wickets in consecutive seasons when he picked up eight wickets for 32 runs to restrict St. Peter’s College to 155 runs on the first day of their Under-19 match started at Reid Avenue on Friday.
In the century old cricket history of Royal College it is only the seventh occasion where a bowler went past the 70 wicket mark in a school season.
Tantrigoda picked up over 70 wickets last season as well.
The other bowlers to have taken more than 70 wickets in a school season according to stats provided by Royal College are Chris Chitty (87 in 1967), Jayantha Kudahetty (71 in 1968), Asitha Jayaweera (71 in 1971), Sunimal Yapa (71 in 1971) and Jayantha Amarasinghe (72 in 1972).
Royal batsmen complimented Tantrigoda’s effort by piling up 232 for two at close. Ramith Rambukwella top scored with 103 in 106 balls (12x4s, 5x6s).
Imal Liyanage was unbeaten on 84 while Madusha Rajarathna was not out on 33 runs at stumps.

Good start for Mahanama

Earlier, the Thomians struggled at 68 for six wickets at one stage before a valuable 61 runs from Sachin Peiris took them to their eventual total.
