Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, in response to a request from Diyawadana Nilame of Sri Dalada Maligawa donated a five-foot-tall gold plated fence (Ranveta) for the lower chamber of the main shrine Friday (5) morning in memory of all war heroes. The gold fence worth Rs 1.6 million was sponsored by the Buddhist Association in the Army. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya during a previous visit to this sacred site, immediately after Vanni operations promised to make a donation to the sacred shrine on behalf of the Army. Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara, Diyawadana Nilame requested him to erect a fence around the lower chamber. The symbolic offering this morning (5) took place amidst Pirith chanting conducted by members of the Maha Sangha. The ceremony was also attended by Brigadier Susil Udumalagala, Area Commander, Kandy, senior officers and devotees.
