Remembering Upali

The 27th anniversary of the disappearance of Mr. Upali Wijewardene, the Founder Chairman of Upali Group, falls on February 13.

The Upali Group, its employees and sales agents islandwide have made elaborate arrangements to commemorate the anniversary with religious ceremonies such as Buddha Poojas, Sil, meditation, alms giving and blood donation campaigns.

A special Bodhi Pooja will be held at the Kelani Rajamaha Viharaya at 6pm. On February 13, a blood donation campaign will take place from 9am at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya organised by employees of the Upali Group of Companies.

Besides arrangements are been made to offer Alms to the Maha Sangha at Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya and scholarships to 10 needy children from the Helena Wijewardane Maha Vidyalaya, Kelaniya.

A special pooja will also be held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy, with the participation of the Maha Sangha and the Diyawadana Nilame at 10am.

Alms Giving, lunch will be given to the inmates of ‘Asarana Sarana’ Elders Home, Kandy at 11.30am and a Bodhi Pooja and Pahan Pooja pinkama will be conducted at the Sri Natha Devalaya, Kandy at 5.30pm.

A special Bodhi Pooja and Pahan Pooja will be held at Sri Saman Devalaya, Ratnapura, organised by the UNL Ratnapura Branch and our Kandos and Delta sales agents. The employees of Upali Trading Co. have arranged an Alms Giving - Lunch for the ‘Children’s Home’ at Ja-Ela.

Founder’s Day Programme on 13th February 2010:

8.30am - Blood Donation Camp at Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, organised by the employees of Upali Group of Companies.

10.30am - Serve tea for the Blood Donation team and Directors and employees of Upali Group of Companies who will be present at that time.

11am - Scholarships to 10 needy children from Helena Wijewardane Maha Vidyalaya, Kelaniya.

12 noon - Alms giving lunch for the Children's Home, Ja-Ela, organised by the employees of the Upali Trading Co. Ltd.

6pm - Bodhi Pooja and Pahan Pooja at Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya.
