Two former Army officers have been arrested by Police over The Sunday Leader founder editor Lasantha Wickrematunge on January 8, 2009. They had been arrested on information provided by the Army intelligence unit and were being questioned, police sources said.
Two other officers were also arrested on suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government. They, too, are being questioned on Wickramatunga’s killing.
Calls received via the mobile phones in the possession of these two suspects were being probed, Police said. Re-registration of EPF members
The Department of Labour has decided to initiate a programme to re-register members of the Employees Provident Fund, Commissioner-General of the Department W. J. L. U. Wijeweera said.
He pointed out that re-registration process in Colombo and Gampaha Districts had already been completed.
A new insurance scheme will be introduced for the members of the EPF. Under the new registration, the serial number of the national identity card will be used as the EPF number.
Wijeweera said the fund had given a 10 percent interest to the members last year.
