Accept defeat gracefully and try to win the general election

The presidential election has come and gone. The incumbent has won it with a majority of 1.8 million which is ten times the 2005 majority. Runner up Sarath Fonseka (SF) and his coterie of friends have been crying foul from the time they smelt that MR was taking an unprecedented lead. The fact that even Wickramabahu Karunaratna was refused the ballot paper for want of identification would no doubt have deterred the opposition from complaining of mass scale impersonation and election rigging.

Now they have started complaining of a computer jilmart at counting centres (CC) and have even produced a mighty sixty four ballot papers marked in favour of SF near a CC. A wag says that they are also looking for ballot papers marked in favour of MR in the East, North and Nuwara Eliya area!

The Election Commissioner (EC) insists that there was no room whatever for computer frauds at CCs and the University of Colombo School of Computing that has handled computer work at elections since 1981 confirms this. The EC has now quite rightly, asked the Doubting Thomas to move the SC for redress.

At the time of writing this letter they have already wasted eleven days of the twenty one days available for them to complain to the SC and hope they would seek legal redress instead of making wild allegations and holding demonstrations merely for the consumption of the gullible public.

Instead of dissipating their energy on a wild goose chase the best that SF and his cohorts could and should do is to concentrate fully on the forthcoming general election, win it with a thumping majority and hold the "Rogue President" to ransom for six years just like Ranil did to Chandrika from 2001-2004. He will then learn the lesson of his life and SF and Co will have the last laugh!!
