The Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has requested all those eligible for postal voting to forward their applications between February 16-22 in time for the 7th Parliamentary General Elections scheduled to be held on April 8, 2010, said Additional Commissioner of Elections (Parliamentary ), P. M. Siriwardena yesterday

He said that the General Elections would be held according to the Electoral Register for 2008, the same as which was used for the recent Presidential Elections and the relevant Registers are on display at all the 22 District Secretariats throughout the country.

Siriwardena noted that postal voters should provide correctly the information required and the writing should be legible (readable), if not applications could be rejected.

Meanwhile nominations are to commence from next Friday February 19 and will close at 12 noon on February 26.

Each Independent candidate will have to deposit Rs. 2000 before 12 noon on February 25, 2010.

All those eligible voters who had their names in the Electoral Register for 2008 during the Presidential Elections, would be assured of their votes and those who registered in 2009 need not call over unnecessarily at the Election Secretariat, he said.
