Top Lankan business leaders at Oxford Union seminar

The global recession is finally showing signs of ending and its effects on Western economies have been drastic, to say the least. What is less clear is its toll on emerging economies in Asia. How has this crisis affected the phenomenal economic growth witnessed in the East? Have the bullish growth in Eastern economies been stifled for good?

A group of distinguished and prominent businessmen/businesswomen, representing different sectors (including telecommunications, finance and banking, investment facilitation, healthcare, travel and tourism) have been invited to address this issue of "Emerging Economies in South Asia:  Challenges Faced and Challenges Ahead" and more. They will use their tremendous experience to answer the all important question – "how to survive in a hostile environment and reap the rewards."

This discussion will be held on February 22 from 6 pm to 7.30 pm at the Oxford Union, Frewin Court, OX1 3BJ. The Chief Guest: Stephan Chambers, Director MBA & EMBA Degrees, Said Business School.

Panel of Distinguished Speakers:

Ajit Gunawardena (Deputy Chairman – John Keells Holdings)., who is deputy head of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerate, which has interests in all major sectors in the Sri Lankan economy.

Dr. Hans Wijesuriya (Chairman – Dialog Telekom). A Cambridge graduate and a Chartered Engineer, who heads Sri Lanka’s largest and most rapidly growing mobile telecommunication provider.

Rienzie Wijetilleke (Chairman – Hatton National Bank). One of Sri Lanka’s most experienced bankers with almost half a century of experience, he oversees one of Sri Lanka’s largest private banking chains with branches in India and Pakistan.

Dhammika Perera (Chairman – Board of Investment) who heads the Board of Investment – the government authority tasked with channelling and facilitating foreign investment in Sri Lanka.

Ms. Otara Gunawardena (Founder and Chief Executive Officer – Odel), is the founder of Odel, Sri Lanka’s best known retailer of fashionable, affordable clothing, accessories and lifestyle products.
