Speedy action necessary to renovate
Walasmulla hospital mortuary

The Mortuary at the Walasmulla District Hospital has not been functioning for a long time. The delay in repairing the mortuary has caused inconveniences to both the kith and kin of those who die as well as the staff working in the hospital.

The hospital sources said some dead bodies had to be taken to the mortuary of the Matara Base Hospital until the post mortuam examination was held.

Sometimes dead bodies are kept in hospital wards or verandahs until the inquirer into sudden deaths arrived on the following day.

A member of the Hambantota Pradeshiya Sabha said Hambantota Regional Director of Health as well as the southern Province Minister of Health were aware of this but so far they had failed to take any action to remedy the situation.
