Harivathanan continues impressive performance

All-rounder Vivekanandaraj Harivathanan continued his impressive performances for a second day as he picked up seven wickets for St. John’s College, Jaffna, to skittle out their arch-rivals Central College, Jaffna, to 159 runs on the penultimate day of the 104th ‘Battle of the North’ Big Match in Jaffna on Friday.

Central College were bowled out for 159 runs in reply to St. John’s 165 when Harivathanan picked up seven wickets. Harivathanan was also the top scorer for St. John’s on the first day (Thursday).

Later, R. Vathushanan and T. Tharsan kept Central College’s hopes of a victory alive when they shared eight wickets between them to restrict St. John’s to 124 runs in their second essay.

Chasing 131 runs to win, Central College were 32 for two wickets at close.


St. John’s 165 all out in 57.3 overs (V. Harivathanan 85, V. Pranavan 29; G. Jerikthusan 3/55, T. Tharshan 3/23) and 124 all out in 67 overs (N. Priyatharshan 33, A. Vithushan 20; R. Vathushanan 4/22, T. Tharsan 4/20)

Central 110 for 4 overnight, 159 all out in 49 overs (N. Thivakar 26, James Jansan 50, G. Jerikthusan 46; V. Harivathanan 7/39, K. Yoheswaran 2/28) and 32 for 2 at close.
