Hakeem’s security to be restored

The Attorney General, through the Deputy Solicitor General, Indika Demuni de Silva, yesterday told the Supreme Court that the IGP would provide security to the leaders and secretaries of registered political parties, provided they were members of the last parliament and candidates at the upcoming general election.

The DSG said that each member would be provided with four police officers.

He said so when a fundamental rights violation application filed by Rauf Hakeem the leader of the SLMC, was called before the Court.

Ikram Mohammad, PC, Counsel for Hakeem said four officers would not be adequate for Hakeem, who had to travel in Northern and Eastern Province for election campaigning. He said the issue would be taken up with the IGP.

The Bench comprised Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, Justice P. A. Ratnayake and Justice Chandra Ekanayake.
