Demonstrators seek Grade 5 teacher

Ambalangoda: Authorities have failed to appoint a teacher for Grade 5 pupils at G/Nindana Maha Vidyalaya, in the Ambalangoda PS area, since August 2009, according to parents and old boys.

They staged a protest in front of the Ambalangoda Zonal Education Office to highlight the problem.

This has affected the education of the pupils who are preparing to sit the scholarship examination in August.

The demonstrators displayed placards denouncing what they called the negative attitude of the Zonal Education Directress in dealing with this urgent need.

The directress was not in office on the day of the protest.

An assistant director told them that a teacher had been transferred there but he had not reported for duty.

Disciplinary action would be taken against him if he failed to accept the transfer from Kalyanatissa KV, Batapola, he said.

The protest lasted for about an hour.

They had entered the office premises pushing aside the gatekeeper who attempted to obstruct their march.
