UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe gave an assure that he will bring down the COL after forming a government.

"We have solutions to many of the problems faced by the people, including the high COL," Wickremesinghe said at Kahawatte recently.

"We will increase the salaries of all employees both in the public and mercantile sectors within two weeks of assuming power.

"The government may have the computer, but we in the UNF has the software," the UNP leader said, " within two years of forming a government, we will solve all these problems."

Wickremesinghe said that the Mahinda Rajapaksa adm inistration was seeking a two-thirds majority to change the Constitution and abolish the Executive Presidency.

"What have they been doing all these years. We offered them the numbers in parliament to change the Constitution but they showed no interest," Wickremesinghe said. "They only want power and do not care about the people’s suffering.
