Proposals put forward by the Tamil National Alliance and the All Ceylon Tamil Congress in their election manifestos were part of an attempt to prevent their alienation from LTTE sympathizers and extremist Diaspora, EPDP political spokesperson, M. Stalin said.
He was commenting on the TNA announcement that they were proposing a solution based on the 'Oslo Agreement' of December 2002 while the ACTC had demanded the implementation of the Vaddukoddai Resolution.
While hoping that their proposals would not alienate themselves from the expatriate LTTE sympathisers, the EPDP spokesperson said.
"We call upon the Tamil people to give up the destructive confrontational politics of the past and be practical to strengthen the hand of President Mahinda Rajapaksa so that they may have the right to be stakeholders of the next Government and solve their day to day problems and political aspirations,"
"We are of the view that the real power sharing should be done at the centre where all proposals of development can be applied to the whole country," Stalin added.
Stalin said President Rajapaksa had, at a casual meeting with him last week, reiterated that the UPFA was committed to resolving the day-to-day problems of the Tamil people and meeting their political aspirations.
