Eight Chief Inspectors have been interdicted with immediate effect, by Police Headquarters, for being involved in election malpractices during the recently concluded presidential polls. Police HQ sources said that the interdictions were a violation of election laws.

Soon after the presidential election the eight officers had received orders transferring them to the Police Training College in Kalutara, sources said.

It was illegal to implement promotions, transfers or recruiting during an election period, the sources said adding that the victimized officers were consulting legal experts to take action against Police HQ.
