D.S. de Silva, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket who has been previously accused of allocating key paid positions of the administration of the sport to his kith and kin has started a new practice; that is to claim money from the board for services he rendered before becoming the Chairman.
De Silva has sought payment from the cricket board stating that he had paid one Asela Sanaruwan to work on Schools Cricket Development as a Data Entry Officer out of his own pocket since October 2008.
De Silva demanded a payment of Rs. 149,000 claiming he had paid the individual on his own, but failed to produce any vouchers.
Surprisingly, Sujeeva Rajapakse, the Treasurer of SLC, who insists on transparency on all financial matters, didn’t raise a voice when D.S. de Silva claimed the payment at a recent meeting.
Although generally the Interim Committee approved payments takes around seven days for cheques to be prepared, this particular cheque had been delivered in less than 24 hours following the request.
