This picture could well have come from Victorian England but it was shot at the refurbished Slave Island (Kompanna Veediya) railway station built during the colonial era. John Keells Holdings whose Glennie Street headquarters is very close to the station has invested substantially in refurbishing and repairing it to make one of Colombo’s architectural museum pieces. Today it is one of the country’s oldest and cleanest railway stations frequently featured in many television advertisements. |
