The National Student Heroes Day organised Weera Podu Jana Padanama was held yesterday at the Education Ministry auditorium with the participation of the Secretary to the Ministry of Education as the Chief Guest. Manipai Ladies' College student Selvi Sinarasa Thanasika, who had risked her life to save an aged woman, another person and a child during heavy fighting in Jaffna, was awarded the Gold Medal (left) while Veheragala Primary School's Saman Jayaweera, who had saved his colleagues from a herd of wild elephants was awarded the Silver Medal (right).
