Battle of the Blues Limited Overs Big Match
Bogoda stars as Royal clinch Mustang trophy

Top order batsman Chalaka Bogoda starred with an unbeaten century for Royal College to record a massive 133 run victory over arch-rivals S. Thomas’ College and clinch the Mustang Trophy in the Battle of the Blues Limited Overs Big Match played at SSC Ground yesterday.

Number three Chalaka Bogoda carried his bat through for an unbeaten 104 for Royal, who posted 289 in 50 overs.

With their reputed Sri Lanka Under-19 players falling for low scores, Bogoda took the responsibility on his shoulders to steer Royal to a competitive total.

Bogoda faced 120 deliveries for his 104 runs and hit eight fours.

He was ably supported by Madusha Rajarathna and Waruna Dissanayake, who scored 60 and 44 runs respectively.

Rajarathna cracked 60 in 68 balls inclusive of seven boundaries.

Chasing 290 runs to win the Thomians struggled against pace and spin as none of the batsmen could top 30 runs for them.

Paceman Bhanuka Rajapakse and Gaurav Deva shared four wickets between them while spinner Ramith Rambukwella picked up three wickets.

Scores:

Royal 289 for 6 in 50 overs (Chalaka Bogoda 104n.o, Madusha Rajarathna 60, Waruna Dissanayake 44, Maneesha Tantrigoda 21n.o; Nilaksha Fernando 3/49)

S. Thomas’ 156 all out in 42.3 overs (Sachinda Liyanarachchi 28, Sachin Peiris 23; Bhanuka Rajapakse 2/18, Gaurav Deva 2/21, Ramith Rambukwella 3-28).
