

AMBALANGODA: A three-year-old boy was killed in a road accident, a day before his mother was scheduled to return from a two-year stint in the Middle East.
His father Lakmal Chandrasiri works at a hotel here.
The crash victim was the only child in the grieve-stricken family, according to relatives.
K. Manuka Viddharasana died at Karapitiya hospital after being knocked down by a car at Usmudulawa on the Galle Road.
He was hit while crossing the road to meet his father who was on the other side.
The victim was first admitted to the Balapitiya hospital and then moved to Karapitiya where he succumbed to his injuries.
He had been living with his grandmother and on the day of the tragedy, she had handed the boy to his father as she had some urgent work.
His father took him to the hotel and kept him near the swing of the hotel and went inside for some errand.
When he returned, he saw the child on the other side of the Galle road, opposite the hotel.
Seeing his father, the child had crossed the road in spite of the warning given by the father, who saw the approaching car.
The driver has been arrested.
Ambalangoda Police are investigating.
