Drug probe team meets today

The Committee, appointed to look into the dearth of drugs in the country, will hold its first meeting today (06). The Spokesman for the Health Ministry said yesterday that they would base their discussions on the report they were instructed to draw up on the present drug crisis.

Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena appointed the committee chaired by Deputy Director General (Public Health) Dr. Palitha Mahipala to draw up a report on the available drugs in the SPC and other health institutions, the drug requirement (quantity and names) and the time limit for drugs already purchased to arrive in the island.

The Health Minister will continue to hold weekly discussions with the committee till the drug shortage is settled, he said.
