The IMF Mission for Sri Lanka is in Colombo holding talks with government and other stakeholders. Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama (left) met Head of IMF Mission to Sri Lanka Dr. Brian Aitken. The IMF is delaying the disbursement of the third tranche under the US$ 2.6 billion standby facility after the government over shot the budget deficit target for 2009, reaching 9.8 percent of GDP. The IMF mission is expected to decide the fate of the programme after the next budget is presented in parliament and it is clear that the government intends to contain high deficits. |
