OPA condemns Pillai’s attempt to reverse HR Council decision

The OPA yesterday condemned Navaneetham Pillai’s attempt to reverse the decision of the Human Rights Council by exerting pressure on UN Secretary General Ban Ki- Moon to appoint without delay the Advisory Group on a War Crimes probe in Sri Lanka.

The OPA said in a statement: "When an appropriate body like the Human Rights Watch has overwhelmingly decided that Sri Lanka Government or its armed forces are not to blame for any human rights violations towards the end of their war against terrorism, a few minority groups in the international community and among INGOs are trying to raise again the cry of an allegation of war crimes against the Sri Lankan Government which, on the other hand, has crushed the most ruthless terrorist organization in the world.

"Navaneetham Pillai is one of the foremost among them. She is exerting pressure on UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon to go ahead, without delay, with the appointment of the Advisory Group on a "concocted" War Crime situation in Sri Lanka.

The UN should know, by now, that Navaneetham Pillai comes from a background supportive of the LTTE and has been biased and prejudiced against the Sri Lankan Government and its President in favour of the LTTE.

The OPA vehemently condemns this sort of action of Navaneethem Pillai (and others of her ilk) and urges the UN to take appropriate action against her open personal bias and prejudice against a sovereign member country and which goes against the very spirit of the Charter of the UN, leaving the Sri Lankan Government, without disturbing its newly won peace after a 30 year war against terrorism, to get on with its economic rebuilding to eliminate poverty and unemployment from the country, as it has annihilated terrorism from its soil.
