

Conspiracy against govt., suspect re-remanded
Colombo Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratne, yesterday re-remaded Senaka Haripriya Silva alias Sha Silva who is in custody for allegedly conspiring against the government till July 21.
The case was again a repetition of the earlier hearings when a legal tussle ensued regarding the relevant legalities of the arrest of the suspect.
Attorney at Law Damith Totawatte, appearing for the Attorney General’s Department, contended that the CID had acted in a proper manner in producing the suspect in Court.
Attorney at Law Shriyantha Waralyadda PC in a lengthy submission dealt with the arrest of the suspect under a section of the Emergency Regulations which had been repealed by a Gazette notification.
He further submitted that a provision of law which has no force in the constitution is herein implemented through the judiciary and referred to the disregard of the supremacy of individuals.
The counsel filed an application to grant bail to the suspect under any condition.
