Duty concessions for import of spare
parts
All CTB breakdowns to be made roadworthy
All CTB buses parked in depots islandwide, due to mechanical problems, would be repaired by the CTB, Transport Minister Kumara Welgama said.
Speaking at the launch of a new service from Weediyagoda to Bandaragama last week, he said his Ministry had already formulated a long-term plan to directly import spare parts from India and President Mahinda Rajapaksa had agreed to grant special tax relief for that purpose.
The Ministry had devised a plan to operate CTB buses on every route where no private buses operate at night. CTB buses will operate on those routes catering to rural people who had earlier not been able to travel during the night.
He pointed out that the import of spare parts for the CTB had been carried out by different organizations but in future the CTB would directly import spare parts from India. It was found that a number of irregularities in the purchase of spare parts had taken place for the CTB to handle its own import requirements.
