Eleven suspects escaped from the Maligakanda Magistrate Court yesterday afternoon by cutting the wire mesh on one side of the Court cell where they were detained until their cases were called.

Prison guards gave chase and managed to apprehend two of the suspects, one at Maradana and the other at Dematagoda and the search goes on for nine others.

Inquiries revealed that some were suspects while there were also accused in murder and other crimes.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had brought the necessary instruments to cut open the thick wire mesh.

Police have been called in and prison guards were questioned as to how the escaped men had brought the instruments in the bus in which they were brought to the Court from the prison.
