Housing Minister Wimal Weerawansa yesterday denied that the National Housing Development Authority had deployed officials to investigate unauthorised extensions to flats by their present legal owners.

Flat dwellers feared that the government after clearing the pavements in urban areas of illegal constructions, wanted to demolish constructions or extensions made to flats.

When the Minister was informed that persons believed to be NHDA officials were seen calling over at flats in Colombo and the suburbs, especially at the Maligawatte Housing complex wanting to question the occupants on extensions, he said he had not even thought of any such thing and felt owners did not have to worry..
