The Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday ordered the release of Inter University Students Union convenor Udul Premaratne, who was produced in Court for allegedly causing public nuisance.

Udul Premaratne was produced in Court on a notice by the Cinammon Gardens Police.

Police told court that Premaratne was produced in Court for his statement to be recorded on the alleged charges.

Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratne, asked why the police were producing a person in Court for a statement to be recorded. She stated that the police should implement their powers in the correct manner.
