

Access for the disabled in public buildings mandatory
Access for the disabled to all public buildings in Sri Lanka would be made mandatory soon, President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) Chandana Edirisuriya said.
Speaking at the workshop on ‘Access for All’ at the SLIA headquarters on Thursday he said that as professionals, architects had taken the needs of the disabled in designing buildings even before regulations to that effect were introduced by the Government.

Task Force on Disability Access said that the provision of facilities for the disabled in public buildings is mandatory in Sri Lanka.It was not only a legal requirement but also a responsibility of the architectural profession.
