Ranil asks govt. to reveal IIFA agreement

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday demanded that the government reveal in Parliament the total expenditure and the relevant agreement signed with regards the IIFA awards ceremony.

He asked the government to table the agreement signed by the government with IIFA organisers.

Once the government tables the agreement all parliamentarians would be able to understand details of the agreement, he said.

He also said that all MPs had a right to question government ministers without giving advance notice.

The Opposition Leader made this statement when the government MPs had blocked UNP MP Rosie Senanayake’s question about the IIFA awards ceremony.

If the government was not ready to reveal the details about IIFA, the Opposition MPs had a right to draw their own conclusions, he said. The government had spent millions of rupees on the IIFA awards ceremony, he said.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said that MPs had a right to ask questions but an MP who wishes to raise a question must submit the question in writing seven (7) days in advance to the relevant Minister.
