The Government has ordered the Local Government Ministry to expedite the demarcation of all electoral areas anew.

A senior Cabinet Minister told The Island that other than North and the East all Provincial Councils have agreed to do so.

Discussions are already being held with the Chief Minister of the Eastern Provincial Council, he said.

Once the Chief Ministers of all provinces agree to the proposal, the necessary amendments to the Constitution will be made to accommodate the changes.

The local government elections will be held at the end of this year or early next year, he said.
