Capt. De Silva released from conspiracy charges

Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli yesterday ordered the release of Captain Senaka de Silva who acted as former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka’s private secretary. Silva was charged with conspiring to overthrow the government.

Presenting a report to the Court when the case was called for hearing yesterday, the Criminal Investigations Department said that all the investigation reports gathered regarding the suspect had been presented to the Attorney General, who, after examining them had declared that the gathered information was insufficient to charge the suspect and therefore had requested that Captain Senaka de Silva be released.

After considering the submission of the CID, the Magistrate ordered the release of the suspect.
