Doctors would refrain from engaging in channel practice during their indefinite strike from April 22, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said yesterday.

GMOA President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya said that in accordance with their constitution there was no provision for their members to do channel practice during any trade union action and the GMOA General Committee had asked its members not to engage in channel practice during the strike.

The scheduled trade union action against the Public Services Commission would go ahead unless the government responded positively before April 22, he said.

Dr. Padeniya added that the PSC had been delaying the issuance of the gazette on the doctors’ service minute though it had been approved by the Cabinet. The PSC was solely responsible for any inconvenience caused to patients during the doctors’ strike, the GMOA Chief said.
