Nurses irked by midwives having their own attendance registry

The Government Nursing Officers’ Association (GNOA) yesterday urged Government Medical Officers’ Association to stop supporting the midwives and allow them to serve under nursing administration.

GNOA Chairman, Saman Ratnapriya said that midwives in certain parts of the country had signed in separate attendance registers without signing in the nurses’ registry yesterday morning. However, nurses’ union chief said that they had instructed the authorities of the hospitals to adhere to administrative rules and regulations dictated by the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry had not issued instructions for such a change. The midwives should continue to serve under Special Grade and Grade One nursing administrators. Ratnapriya warned that nurses would refuse to serve under medical administrators if the GMOA continued to support the midwives. (DJ)
