In a bid to provide a customer-friendly pharmaceutical service two major mobile phone companies had agreed to make the people aware of the kinds of drugs available in the market and their prices through their systems.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena told The Island that last week two major mobile phone companies had met him and offered to make available information about pharmaceuticals so that they could make informed decisions when they purchased medicinal drugs.

The Health Minister said he had appreciated their offer.

Minister Sirisena said pharmacies were selling the same drug at different prices. When the people had access to drug prices, they could easily select the particular pharmacy which sold the drugs at the lowest prices. Information network without the prices was not enough.
