Customs officials at the Air Cargo Export terminal, Katunayake, last Sunday (27) detected 4.9 kg consignment of wallapatta when it was about to be exported to Dubai via a courier service.

Customs media spokesman Leslie Gamini told The Island that they would call the directors of the courier service and inquire whether they were aware of the items being exported from Sri Lanka to Dubai on flight FZ 558 scheduled to depart on the same day, declared as incense sticks (Joss Sticks).

The consignment was valued at Rs. 5,880,000.00 when it was examined on Wednesday by Deputy Superintendent of Customs, B. Janadaran, Assistant Superintendents of Customs, Sanath Dadanayake and Gayan Wijayagunaratna, under the Direction of Deputy Director of Customs, Bio Diversity, Cultural and National Heritage Protection, Samantha Gunasekera.

He said that the smugglers would be arrested after the courier service directors were informed to identify the real exporter.
