Ravi threatens disciplinary action against Muzza

By Lal Gunasekera

Corruption in the UNP administered Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) as well as the government would be exposed soon, vowed Colombo District UNP Leader Ravi Karunanayake yesterday (5)

He told The Island that the UNP had won the CMC elections to stop all forms of corruption and not be at beck and call of government officials including Defence and Urban Development Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. He said that A. J. M. Muzammil should run the CMC as UNP Mayor and not anyone else’s puppet.

Karunanayake also found fault with the Mayor for defending CMC Commissioner Mrs Badrani Jayawardena on the controversial attempt to purchase vehicles for the Council. The UNP would never permit a sewerage tax by the CMC unless the government brought in legislation to that effect, he said. Necessary action would be taken against the Colombo Mayor by UNP.

MP Karunanayake also said that the UNP would continue with their protests until all the government thugs who had attacked five UNP MPs in Hambantota two weeks back were brought to book.

Mayor Muzammil, asked for comment, said that Karunanayake had no business to interfere with the CMC administration and he would reply when the time was opportune.
