All health sector strikes put on hold

All trade unions in the government health sector such as the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), Public Service United Nurses Union (PSUNU), All Ceylon Health Services Union (LCHSU), and Government Nursing Officers Association (GNOA) would refrain from launching further trade union action until the Finance Ministry Secretary introduced the new government health sector restructuring formula, the GMOA said yesterday.

GMOA Committee member Dr. Nalin de Herath pointed out that the Treasury Secretary Dr. P. B. Jayasundara had held meetings with all government sector trade unions to reach a consensus to refrain from taking trade union action as he had undertaken to restructure the entire public sector health service to minimize conflicts among trade unions.

He said that following the assurance given by Dr. Jayasundara the GMOA had decided not to launch any trade union action.
