TNDA to expand membership

by Franklin R. Satyapalan

Tamil National Democratic Alliance (TNDA) Leader M. K. Sivajilingam yesterday said that as agreed earlier the Tamil Party Forum was expanding its activities to include Plantation Tamil and Muslim Political Parties.

"We aim to table a proposal, before the government by December 15, which should satisfy the political aspirations of all sections of the Tamil speaking people in Sri Lanka," Sivajilingam said.

We have invited all Plantation Tamil Parties including the Leader of the Democratic Peoples Front Mano Ganeshan and V. S. Radhakrishnan MP and Leader of the Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF) for the next meeting of the TPF scheduled for Wednesday at the EPDP head office at Park Road.

Veteran ex-CWC politician from the Nuwara Eliya District V. S. Radhakrishnan MP, who broke ranks with his party to cross over and assume the Leadership of the UPF, to fill the void left by the demise of Periathamby Chandrasekeran, said that he would assume the leadership of the UPF only after the forthcoming Deepavali festival (Nov.5)

Sivajilingam, a former MP and General Secretary of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) before he formed the Tamil National Democratic Alliance and contested the Presidential Elections on January 26, 2010, said that though the Tamil Party Forum was based on Tamil Political Parties based in the North and the East the Leader of the DPF wanted recognition for his Party, too, as the General Secretary of the DPF Dr. Kumara Guruparan hailed from the North.

The other parties in the Tamil Party Forum are the TULF, EPDP, PLOTE, Naba wing of the EPRLF, Tamil National Democratic Alliance, Democratic Peoples Front TMVP, Sri Telo, the Organization for Eelam Refugees Rehabilitation (OEFRR) led by S. Chandrahasan and Home for Human Rights.
