The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday warned they would strike from June 6 at two major hospitals in the North Central Province if the Health Ministry and the North Central Province since authorities failed to take action against the General Secretary of the Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka (PHIUSL), A.M. Senarath Bandara.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Saman Abewardhane said that the strike would be held at the Anuradhpura Teaching and Polonnaruwa General Hospitals.

The GMOA NCP branch union has been launching regular strikes against the PHISL General Secretary over a series of allegations which includes insubordination, he said.

However, the PHIUSL General Secretary claimed that the GMOA had been pursuing him for leveling corruption charges against an epidemiologist and for failing to call the Hingurakgoda Medical Officer of Health ‘Sir.’

He said that he had filed a Fundamental Rights case in the Supreme Court.
