Kalubowila doctor, nurses down with dengue

By Pradeep Prasanna Samarakoon

A doctor, two nurses and a clerk attached to the Kalubowila hospital are being treated for dengue, its director Dr. Asela Gunawardane, said yesterday.

He said they were warded in the hospital for three days and added that a number of other doctors, nurses and staff members had been treated for dengue during the last few months.

"Already there are 160 dengue patients being treated at the hospital and two patients are being forced to occupy a single bed," he said.

Though the hospital premises are cleaned once a week, those living in the neighbourhood do not clean their gardens and premises providing a conducive environment for mosquito breeding, Dr. Gunawardane said.
